ODC Expands Community Outreach and Employment Opportunities in Grand Rapids, MN

The Occupational Development Center (ODC) is launching a renewed effort to reconnect with the Grand Rapids, MN community and expand opportunities for individuals with disabilities through employment support services and community programs.

ODC has served northern Minnesota communities for decades by helping individuals with disabilities develop skills, gain confidence, and pursue meaningful employment. While the organization continues to provide Day Support Services at its Grand Rapids location, leadership says many residents may not realize the full scope of programs available locally.

“Our goal is to remind the community that ODC is here and that we provide real opportunities for people with disabilities to work, grow, and contribute to their community,” said Mary Gibson, who oversees ODC operations in the region. “We want employers, families, and community members to know that our services are available and that we’re ready to partner with them.”

ODC’s Employment Support Services work directly with both job seekers and local employers to create successful workplace placements. Through individualized support, training, and employer partnerships, ODC helps people with disabilities secure and maintain meaningful jobs while assisting businesses in building inclusive workplaces. The organization has seen strong success with this model across northern Minnesota, and leaders believe the Grand Rapids area offers significant potential for growth.

One local employer already partnering with ODC is First Call for Help, which currently employs several individuals supported by the organization. ODC leaders say partnerships like this demonstrate how local businesses can play a meaningful role in expanding employment opportunities for people with disabilities while strengthening the community workforce.

To increase visibility and invite the public to learn more about its programs, ODC is planning several upcoming community events in Grand Rapids. A community spring event featuring an indoor egg hunt and family activities is scheduled for April 11, designed to welcome families into the facility and introduce them to ODC’s services in a fun and accessible way. Later in the spring, ODC will host an Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on May 26 in partnership with the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce, offering community members and local employers an opportunity to tour the facility and meet staff.

The Grand Rapids location is supported by a dedicated team focused on helping individuals reach their full potential in the workforce. Employment Services Consultant Michael Gray works closely with both job seekers and employers to identify opportunities, provide workplace guidance, and ensure successful job placements.

“Everyone has abilities and talents that deserve to be recognized,” Gibson said. “Our mission is to help individuals discover what they’re capable of and give them the opportunity to succeed.”

ODC encourages community members, employers, and families to attend the upcoming events, learn more about the organization’s services, and explore how they can become partners in building a more inclusive workforce in Grand Rapids.
