Celebrating the recent success of one of our people served!
Seven years ago, April Bergeson started utilizing the employment skills and placement services provided by ODC in Baudette. During this time, April has made tremendous progress in pursuing her employment goals and discovering her strengths and skills, with successful application in the local workforce.
Since she first began working with ODC, she has been able to work a variety of job types: housekeeping at Lakewood Hospital, cashiering at Kaleidoscope Thrift Store, and cleaning at the DNR office and Cornerstone Church. Exploring these various positions allowed her to develop and become more proficient in her job tasks.
Less than a year ago, April was hired at River Bend Resort. She will soon be graduating from ODC’s support services and will continue working independently as their main housekeeper Monday through Friday. Her employers are very happy with her hard work and loyalty, and are thrilled to be able to have her onboard as an employee of the resort!
“Working at River Bend makes me feel good,” April said. “I really enjoy my employers and coworkers!” She added that she especially loves when customers leave her tips for a job well done.
When she is not at work, April enjoys fishing, riding ATVs, snowmobiling and many other outdoor activities. As for indoor hobbies, she likes to read, watch movies, and challenge herself with puzzles.
“Something helpful I have learned through working with ODC is how to stay focused on the task at hand in spite of other things going on,” April said. She has been able to more effectively interact with her coworkers and help mitigate and resolve conflicts as they occur.
“It’s important to keep doing your best no matter what else is happening,” April added.
Wise words to live by, April! Thank you for sharing your story!
